Actor Lamorne Morris shared a touching moment with his daughter after winning an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the 76th Emmy Awards in September 2024.
The “New Girl” actor posted a TikTok showing him handing the statuette to his daughter, Lily, then four. It was too heavy for her to hold on her own. “I can’t hold it because I’m too little,” she said.
Morris Shouts Out His Daughter In Acceptance Speech
Morris thanked Lily during his acceptance speech for his performance as Deputy Witt Farr in Season 5 of “Fargo.” It was his first Emmy. The other nominees included Jonathan Bailey, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Goodman-Hill, John Hawkes, Lewis Pullman and Treat Williams.
He began by thanking God and his mother, mixing affection with a joke about his birth. The speech had the same comic warmth familiar to viewers who knew him from “New Girl,” even though the award recognized a very different role.
He then spoke directly to his daughter, teasing, "I love you. I told you I would do it, you always doubted me. I’m your hero.”
Lily had also appeared in a video Morris shared in August 2024 about learning he had been nominated. As he teared up over the news, she had a question for him.
In the TikTok video, the pair is sitting down at a table when Morris burst into tears. This prompted Lily to ask, “Daddy, are you crying again?”
The video captured a funny moment between Morris and his daughter. He joked in his caption that she had decided to make fun of him when the nomination call came. Fans who knew his comedy had another little scene to enjoy, this time from home.
After the win, his former “New Girl” co-stars joined in the congratulations on social media. The show had ended, but the messages made it clear that the milestone still mattered to the cast.
Hannah Simone, who played Cece, called Morris her former roommate and “forever work brother” in her congratulations.
Max Greenfield, Zooey Deschanel and Jake Johnson also shared messages celebrating the win. Morris had the ceremony, the speech and the award photographs. The video with Lily added something else: his daughter discovering that an Emmy is quite a lot for a small pair of hands to carry.
