Lady Gaga's Harlequin arrived on September 27, 2024, a week before Joker: Folie à Deux opened in U.S. cinemas. The 13-track release drew on her role as Lee, the film's version of Harley Quinn, and appeared while fans were waiting for her next major pop album.
Gaga presented it as a companion to the film. The nickname LG6.5 signaled that it sat between projects, rather than taking the place of the record fans had been calling LG7. The announcement included the cover and song list, which mixed familiar titles with new material.
How Harley Quinn Shaped the Project
Harlequin gave Gaga a way to keep working with the character through music. Universal Music's release announcement described new arrangements of older songs alongside the originals Happy Mistake and Folie à Deux. Gaga produced the tracks with Benjamin Rice.
The album was recorded in Malibu and Las Vegas while she was finishing her Jazz & Piano residency in summer 2024. Its relationship to the movie didn't make it simply a recording of the film's performances.
The promotion also reached the Louvre. The museum said it collaborated with Warner Bros. and Gaga on a video inspired by Lee Quinzel, filmed in its galleries and featuring the Mona Lisa. It was a planned creative collaboration with the museum.
What Happened to LG7?
The other album did follow. MAYHEM was released on March 7, 2025, so the earlier question about an unnamed future LG7 has an answer. Its track list includes Disease, Abracadabra and Die With a Smile, Gaga's duet with Bruno Mars.
Harlequin remains a separate 13-song project with its own character and film connection. Calling it LG6.5 during the rollout helped distinguish the two releases, which arrived less than six months apart.
For listeners returning to the 2024 announcement, the dates matter. Harlequin wasn't replacing a canceled pop album, and neither record is still awaiting the release promised in those early teasers.
